SongWest is an intensive 4-day singing retreat under the direction of Nancy J Hendry.
It was inspired by Karla Mundy's SongRoots camps.
At SongWest Bamfield, our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for any level of singer.
Classes are provided which are accessible for the untrained singer, as well as masterclass level to hone skills for more advanced singers. Whether you sing in the shower, or on stage, all you need is the desire to sing and the motivation to take part in a community of harmony.
SongWest is an intimate sized camp by design. There are only 30 spaces for non-Bamfield residents, and 15 spaces for Bamfield residents.
Bamfield is located in Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN) Territory on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The photo on the right is from Kiixen Village - a 5000 year old First Nations Village. There may be an opportunity for a group to visit with a HFN guide
Bamfield is well known as the trail head of the West Coast Trail. It is also home to the the world famous Bamfield Marine Science Centre (BMSC).
Geographically Bamfield is located on Barkley Sound, on the opposite side of the Pacific Rim National Park and Broken Islands from Ucluelet.
Students and faculty are housed at the McKay Bay Lodge. Rooms are shared 2-3 people; each having a 3 piece en suite. Delicious home-cooked dinners are served to you at your table. Casual buffet and/or bagged lunches are served for breakfasts and lunches.
A tradition at music camps is the student/faculty concert. This is an opportunity for students to perform for a live audience. Performing is completely optional. Venue for 2025 will be at The Whistle Buoy, in the north suite which offers a fabulous view. This building was originally the Eric Godson school.
